Early defender Key type bonnet lock

Early ones (pre 1986) had a key operated lock on the front, with a lever reach through the grill to open the bonnet. (The catch held it down, the key made it secure)

When they put push button doors on, they also fitted an internal bonnet release.

Which is why the internal releases always look like an afterthought, and aint designed into the dash :D
