Hi!

First post, so first of all hello!

My Dad gave me his Range Rover because he was sick of it breaking on him... I thought he was mad but I'm starting to feel like giving it away myself.

Anyway. I'll start at the top. My drivers door wont lock off the central locking, and my MPG screen works when it feels like it. I've had the dashboard and the door apart, haven't fixed either problem, but now I notice my right hand speakers arent working!

I thought I must have left the speakers unplugged when I had the door apart, but I've double checked it today and they're all connected. While I was there I noticed the rear door speaker also isn't working.

The sub is fine, the centre dash speaker is fine, and all the left hand speakers are fine. But none of the right hand door speakers are working

I'm not used to expensive cars, normally I'd just buy a cheap second hand part and hope that fixes it, but I feel like spending £250 on a DSP amp, then £100 on a BM54, to potentially not even fix the problem is a bit of a stretch.

Do any of you have any ideas how I can be a bit more logical with my diagnostics? I've got a multimeter if it helps!

I'll even buy a takeaway for whoever puts me on the right track!!

Cheers!

First thing, Hello and welcome:)
Second have you looked at the connections to the amp and other stuff in the rear of the boot , they are well known to get wet and get green stuff on the pins, clean of with electrical contact cleaner Do not use wd40.

Thankyou and Hello to you, too!

Sorry, yes I've been rummaging around the boot today. I have disconnected most of the connectors and had the amp out to get part numbers.

I must admit I did spray some WD40 on them in desperation.. not that it made much difference!

I feel like it must be something to do with me having the door/dash apart, but having had it apart again it all seems to be connected properly.

I did pull the side off the dashboard today and noticed there was a big connector hanging behind the light switch, I googled the part number and it seems to be a connector for the LCM from an E38/E39.. I'm not sure if this is used for audio on the L322 and I'd disconnected it somehow, admittedly I'm clutching at straws!

Thanks for the reply

Thats the part number of the clip hiding behind the end panel on my dashboard. Does anybody know if there is supposed to be one of these floating around behind the light switch, or could this be something to do with my issue?

I cant see anything for it to connect to so I'd put it down to being redundant wiring from the E39/E38

As far as I know the LCM only does the lights and backup for the mileage so if they are all working it's not from there. Does anything else work on those speakers, CD player, Satnav, Voice commands? may help pin it down to the amp. Not wanting to insult your intelegence but you have checked the balance isn't set to the LH speakers

Appreciate the reply, mate!

It's hard to say, the car has had a Mk4 upgrade done at some point, but since I've had the car the screen has never worked! I plan on upgrading to an Android unit if it will stop breaking for 5 minutes haha

I don't really press any buttons because I can't see what I'm pressing, I just use the power button and use the steering wheel to control station and volume. I also did a hard reset on the battery earlier, hoping this would reset the stereo settings incase it was a balance/fade issue. I'd imagine that was hidden away in the menus though surely?

Don't think a test meter will show much on the speakers. If you have access to an oscilloscope that would be a better option. Also if the rear RH door isn't working either I would guess it's not something you caused messing with the drivers door.

Yeah that's what made me start looking in the boot, when I noticed the rear speaker wasn't working and I haven't touched it.

One thing I will say, I know my battery isn't the best, it was 11.6v the other day. I'm planning to go and get a new battery from Halfords (they owe me one so might aswell), how likely do you think that will be the issue?

I've also got an old E46 330d, I'm hoping that's got a BM54 I can pinch to test

I wouldn't bother with the Halfords battery as it will probably be a 900cca one which is a bit on the small side. The one most recommended on here is the MF31-1000 which I recently fitted and put the 18month old Halfords one in the back as a second battery. 11.6v is very low for the L322 so deffinately worth a try, you may be lucky.

Cheers again mate!

Well, like I say my Dad gave me the car because he was sick of fixing it, and when he gave it me it had a flat (but nearly new) Halfords 020 size battery on it. The battery is kaput so I was planning to go and get it replaced FOC if I can, I've got the receipt with the paperwork! Gotta be better than the 11.6v one I found in the shed aha

I can replace it with the one you recommended and use the Halfords one on one of my other projects I suppose

I'm drawing a blank, might just break the thing the way it's going. Lovely Overfinch bodykit in the same colour as yours haha!

The Vogue trim is particularly hungry with regards to elecrickery, have a search on here and you will find lots of post saying stick the biggest battery you can physically fit. If you are handy with a set of spanners it will save you a small fortune, and as you got it for free it could be worth throwing a few quid at it.

I already have saved a small fortune on the few bits I've sorted to be fair!

The key not turning was the last straw for my Dad, fixed that for free. Then I've had the steering column not adjusting, fixed that for free. Then the rear hub balljoints were squeaking and I fixed that by injecting some new geese.

I was thinking their reputation was all a myth and they weren't so bad... now it seems to be biting me in the wallet quite badly aha!

Meant to say, I am quite handy with spanners, I'm currently building a mk2 Golf 1.8t, an M50 Turbo E34 BMW and a few other bits and pieces, but when it comes to all the electronics on the L322 I'm starting to feel a bit out of my depth!
