E diff front or back?

Morning Gents,

I'm buying an e diff from terra firma (just the one for now) for my 110 TD5 and wondering if there is any advantage to installing it in front or rear?

Me too. I have never heard of e diff, although I have had ARBs and Detroits before.

That is what I liked about the Detroit, no air lines, no compressor.

I had a 65% LSD Tru Trac in the front, pull the front wheels around a bit so the steering was better on the road.

I think that is switchable, so you will be able to turn it off for road use.

interesting u talking about locking diffs etc , as didn’t realise that some D3/4 came with E diffs and didn’t need a compressor, just got the terrain response and CLD on mine

Do also find it very interesting in how how effective the terrain response is supposed to be

also seen some fitting ARB lockers both front and rear on D3/4, assume that’s for rock crawling etc

Locking diffs are pretty good for rock crawling, which I have never tried, but would like to.

I fitted mine to help deal with that good old British favourite, greasy waterlogged clay. :(

What sort of use will it get? Ie sorts of off road terrain? Do you have traction control?

An ATB might serve you better than a full locker. But may depend on use.

As for front/rear. Again depends. But front would probably work better overall.

many thks , must confess some of the worst surfaces I’ve ever had to deal with was on wet grass , also found this video very interesting as it seems with the newer kind of terrain response the wheels don’t have to spin as much like in some of the older discoveries , range rovers

see on some of the new land rovers they have ATPC ( all terrain progress control ) , alas though think that takes a lot of the fun from greenlaning

Plus didn’t realise the CLD on mine can’t be turned on manually , i assume is the same for the rear E locker and therefore reducing the possibility of wind up, but of course u have considerably more knowledge than myself when it comes to lockers

as a side note talking of new tech would like to have progressive cruise control

Before we all get too excited, Let's check it actually fits the rear axle of a 110. Many 110s were supplied with a bigger beefier rear axle (either the Salisbury or P38 style). I see the advert says it just fits the front of 110s and 130s. So worth making sure it'll fit.

Straight out the terrafirma catalogue.
looks like fitment to front of 110 only.

Ah, but it does say there's one with another part number that'll fit the non-Salisbury post-2002 diff, so it might be possible.

One of the advantages of my 90 is that it has pretty much the same axle internals front and back.
