Hi ,

I have a RR classic and have put the body on a 300 tdi discovery ,
what is the easyest way to get he details changed with the DVLA,

I have both log books for both vechiles , can i keep the discovery ID/reg or is it best just to keep the original RR ID and just say i changed engine to 300 tdi? ,

also i Have a series 2 that i have put the v8 from the range rover in , can i just fill in the form with new engine capacity and send it off for this one ?

every engine I have the v5 for and own, so is that good enough for them to change details over?

thanks

I would've thought that the first one would be classed as a discovery with a body change assuming that's all you've changed and they may want to inspect it to check. If they aren't happy worst case you'll have to iva it and get a Q plate:( but if it's all genuine discovery apart from the body hopefully you'll be able to keep the reg,
Second one sounds straight forward enough

The RRC has basically had a new chassis and change of engine fitted? If it was mine I would register it as having an engine swap and leave it at that, yeah sure its not the original chassis but its the same chassis and no different to people swapping for a galv chassis or a second hand one really... I know its not strictly the correct way but its not a saftey concern and there is no real difference to worry about...

And the second one is a yes, just fill in with new capacity and send off V5

A Disco chassis is the same as an Rangie Classic chassis, are you sure!

Not really but im going on the fact RRC and Disco parts are interchangable and the fact he has mounted a RRC body on a Disco chassis, there may be some differences that I don't know about, having never taken apart a RRC I couldn't say for sure...

yep just saying he'll need to find out 100% cos if he gets pulled.........

There wont be a copper out there that could tell the difference, like I say its not the 100% legal way of doing things (a re-chassis should need various VOSA checks e.t.c.) but if there is minimal or no difference then there would be no harm done really...

We get this alot with old VW's, the beetles chassis and floorpan are the bit with the numbers on, the body is interchangable and alot of people swap them straight out for a different body without changing anything or notifying VOSA...

first one sounds like Q plate material, as it's a hybrid of 2 cars no "new" parts only second hand parts.

second is engine change only - much easier

hmmm i'd be wary

VOSA do roadside stops, one day they could pick on Landies and look for, quite rightly, stolen ones.
it does go on but if it's your pride and joy, you've got to play safe.

although keeping your mouth shut and keeping details off forums - you'd get away with "new engine"

I've done this on loads of old minis - most of the time fitting newer stuff to older cars to keep the tax exep ;-)

but shhhhhhhh!!!!! no one knows

Ah, sounds like your one of the absolute scum who ****s about with vehicles to illegally defraud the tax man and thus helps in increasing the price of road tax for all the people who doing things properly.

The rules and laws in place are generally quite reasonable, either abide to them or i hope you get pulled and have your cars crushed.

was a fairly common job 10 or so years ago ,swapping bodies, many rrc petrols became diesel with disco chassis engine gearbox etc, wasnt such an issue before the rules tightened as long as you wernt trying to pass older vehicle as newer and had legit receipts

he owns all the vehicles in question, so he isn't a bad lad.

still if it's worth doing it's worth doing right and legally.

so on the series , i just fill out the form with new engine no. etc and send it off ,
its a tax exempt one, so is this still ok?

and on the RR, i will just say i put the disco engine in and re stamp the chassis with the rr id (i have both v5's for all the vechiles)

also do i need any inspection done or anything?

I am a mechanic and have done the work myself at home

thanks for reply's
