Hi there,
I am new here :).
I live in the Netherlands, close to the “Zaanse Schans” and drive a Freelander diesel. Not my first Landrover, I used to drive a Defender TD5 and an other Freelander before. And I own an old (1967) Citroën. Just a few months younger than I am.
Happy to read the stories here.

Welcome to LZ! :)

I like the Netherlands, been there at least a dozen times. Good place to see interesting boats!

Hi Turboman,

I like England, I met a few really nice British people with boats. Frank Mullville with Iskra I met sailing in Denmark. Fond memories.
More into Inland than Coastal these days, due to age.

I have admired many Dutch Barges in their native habitat, and there are also lots on the UK Inland Waterways, some big Barges, but also Tjalks, and lots of Westerlanders, well suited to our conditions

Yes, I’ve seen some Dutch barges in England, they fit in there :).
Once upon a time i bought an English ensign and planned to sail my boat over. I never got to doing so. I did cross the channel several times though, but in a more seaworthy boat. A few years ago I sold my boat.
Still have the ensign though….

I had a mooring for several years on the Cambridgeshire Fens. Drained by Dutchmen, and very similar in all respects to the Netherlands, flat, lots of water, and buildings similar to those in Holland.
It is extremely similar to Waterland, an area to the North of Amsterdam, where I have also been.

The Fens, and the history of the Fens I did not know of. I watched this morning an episode of “ great channel journeys” and learned something. The countryside is, indeed, very similar to the Dutch countryside, but here we have no Ely and no Cambridge, alas.
