Len Drover,
When referring to dual fuel in a petrol engine, the other option is LPG, generally speaking, though some clever people can also run on methane gas, producer gas, or hydrogen gas.
Diesel engines ignite through compression, utilising injectors which are similar to those used for petrol fuel injection, you can't run a petrol engine on diesel, maybe someone is pulling your leg.
kind regards...Ron.

so it runs on gas? can i use the gas bottle from my greenhouse heater or is it special gas? and what about the sparkplugs? are they the same as the desiel ones? sorry for all the question but i'm a bit thick when it comes to cars and the like.

Dear Len I see that no one has replied to your post in the last 17 minutes. Please don't be disheartened and think you are being ignored, your not it's just that I know as much as you do about duel fuel engines, and besides Ormus's wife said I've got a little willy.

oh! so they relie on nothing but compression to ignitr them?? wow! they must have some presser in there for them to do that. so what about this gas does that burn under pressure too??

no my greenhouse heater uses gas and that comes in a big red bottle. i have to buy my petrol from a petrol station and its a liquid so its not the same

Hmmm septics do make so much sense  :( dont they??

Oh and as for spelling, why cant people just press the spell check button??? Is it that difficult??

in the 1940s 50s International Harvester made a tractor engine with both sparking plugs (use petrol through carb to start and run if you felt extravegant) It also had a normal diesel fuel system hi-pressure pump and injectors for running on economical cheap red diesel. Perhaps someone transplanted one into your landrover . Check if the engine is painted international red. If it is try to get plugs from your nearest Tractor dealer,if not try a Land Rover main dealer ,who should be well versed in answering such queries. Chris
