Series 3 Ducellier electri ignition conversion

series 3 past its MOT with no advisories and I did all the work myself so I'm well happy , thought I'd treat myself and buy an electronic ignition . Thing is I have a Ducellier dizzy and the kits and not as Ava/cheap as Lucas kits , just wondering if it just the mounting plate that's different and if so can it just be modified. Other thing is although there are mostly positive reviews of these a lot of people are saying if they go wrong in the middle of nowhere then youre screwed , which does make sense , has anyone has an experience where it did go wrong whilst out and about ?
 
pick up a cheap lucas dissy 2nd hand convert it to electronic and carry your ducellier as a back up in the unlikely event of failure problem solved
 
I thought the kits could be replaced with the old points and condenser if the electronic bit failed. In which case just keep the old bits in the tool kit.

I've had my powerspark fitted 4 years now with no problems ,I'd never go back to points and condenser set up, mines a k8 kit for a duce dizzy it was cheap enough I bought a spare to carry in my tool kit
 
theres nothing simpler or more reliable than the powerspark kit, had em on my last 7 classics

i never could work out why some peeps carry points incase powerspark packs up , i carry i spare PS module, but have never had one break

so easy to fit in 10 mins max
 
I don't know why people seem to worry about contact breaker points and condenser ignition systems. I've had dozens of cars and bikes with such systems and had very few problems. I can only remember 1 instance where the condenser gave me trouble and even then it wasn't an outright failure. Yes, electronic ignition is maintenance free but we have these old vehicles to tinker with and relive the old days of owner involvement. It might only take ten minutes to change a powers park kit but I can change a set of points in that time too.

Before I changed to powerspark I'd had a bad run of condensers bought new from a good source I got sick of sending them back for replacement, its a gamble when buying electrical components these days as their always a Chinese knock off

Steve , I've got a question re powerspark I hope you can help me with , at beginning of year I bought standard copper leads so they are nearly new , I've just bought powerspark and its on its way , from your past experience do i really need to buy new silicone leads or is this just an added extra ? Thanks in advance
