My personal experience of DMF is you can test them, but they are consumable part in my opinion.

I have several experiences with mondeo's and it is now priced with DMF every time

yeah problem is i have got all the clutch bits apart form the flywheel! the flywheel isn't badly marked or excessive play my worry is there is about 1mm of play form front to back and if i put the new clutch in will it but the flywheel under too much pressure and i'm back to square one!!

the dual mass flywheel is a harmonic balancer it absorbs and dissipates torsional stresses- transit people did solid flywheel conversions and suffered crankshaft failures.
The duel mass flywheel also acts like an anti stall device and is quite apparent in it's damping abilities when replaced.

Any doubt replace it as it sounds as if it is worn.

they will work but will reduce life of gear box

rakeway have been selling plenty for a good while now, would have expected them to be inundated with claims against if that comment could be backed up - I know 6 TD5s with them fitted - one with in excess of 100k of abuse

i said shorten life not instant kill ,why do you think modern high torque diesel engines have dual mass ,i used to think like you a few years ago

a good DM flywheel may well be better that a solid - i'm just of the opinion that the lump of chocolate fitted to the TD5 isn't worth the trouble and expense of replacing with a similar, probably also eventually problematical unit
