hi lads, going back to the fuel injection pump,i now have the pump puller but i have read that i also need a dti tool to set the timing what is dti tool and where can i get it,cheers pat.

You don't need the pump puller or more correctly pump pusher to do the timing. There was a thread about the adaptor from the states i got one off eBay £21.00 including post from California. Item 370483411322 eBay. You will then need a DTI. For about £20.00 almost anywhere. You will also need a TDC locking pin.

PS
Have just looked at item it appears they have sold out. But there are others in states but a little more expensive.

Sorry - missed that!

The adaptor is made by JTC auto tools. It is for VW Bosch VE pumps but can be used for the BMW Bosch pumps. Look at eBay item 250780312796.
That is somewhat more expensive than the one Nathan found that is now sold out, but if you look on eBay the DTI can be got for around a tenner. So you can have what you need other than the locking pin that you also require for around £40.00.

Have found mine that was lost. Will mike it up later and let you know dimensions.

Ok dimensions for LRT-12-108 are.
Length. ---------------------------130mm.
Major diameter.--------------------11.99mm.
Nose spigot. 10mm long. Diameter---7.89mm. With a slight lead chamfer.

So 12mm silver steel with 10mm nose turned to 7.90mm should do the trick.

Us old buggers have our uses. As a matter of interest. Missus works on reception at hotel opposite Samlesbury. She has had a few blokes in for a long time. They are fitting some Makino automatics in two shed. They should have been finished at Christmas but are still there, held up by health and safety. They can't go for a **** without a risk assessment apparently. And we wonder why everything is made in India and China these days. Various governments, notably Thatchers, caused total mayhem getting rid of restrictive practices that slowed production. Rightly in some cases. Then introduce sometimes totally stupid health and safety regulations that made things ten times worse. You could not make it up. No wonder we are in the ****.

nice to see my investigation into a cheap way of setting up the pump has helped someone else! and that my figures for the locking pin werent to far out either!
just a point to add if you have hot start issues set the timing to 1mm instead of 0.9mm as stated in rave have done this twice now and has worked perfectly!
