hi, i want to give my 2.5 bmw dse an oil change in about a months time, was going to do it myself but as space isnt that good on the driveway i asked a man round the corner who does alot of servicing and has a ramp, either is was too busy or just didnt want to work on the range rover as he told me that if you dont have a dealer do it then theres a very high risk of engine failure!!!????

now im not an expert but in my eyes an oil change is going to be pretty much the same as any other car?! know it sounds stupid but think the bloke has spooked me now! but anyone got any advise before i go ahead with it please?

Many thanks.

What a load of crap.

If you have a flat surface to work on, you'll be fine. You dont even need ramps or a jack. You can reach the sump drain plug by just crawling under slightly.

Get your engine warm, then drain the oil, 8 litres will come out, so you will need a large drain pan, I use an old washing up bowl. Also remove the oil filler cap to allow air to flow through the engine, should help drain the oil slightly.

Remove oil filter top, quite trickly unless you have a large socket, Id buy one, makes the job so much easier, not sure of size. Remove filter.

Put new filter and the 3 new O rings, put filter back in place and tighten up.

Replace sump plug with new washer, not essential.

Fill the oil up with 8 litres. Check dipstick untill nicely full.
