Me mates 97 dse is having probs starting, he says the glow light no longer comes on, it starts eventually but approaches flat'nin the battery.. any ideas?

least its a start :)
ta

Glow plug relay's are a common failure point on many makes of vehicle, I don't have enough experience of the P38 to know if it common to the P38 too, but it probably is. I have dealt with recent failures on my excavator, a Renault Tractor with Deutz engine and a Hyundai Galloper:eek::eek::eek:

i advised him to check relays fuses and connections thort it worth an ask on ere to see if theres any common ones,i'll let ya know how he gets on :)

Check fuses and relay for heater plugs. Light not coming on could of course just be a blown bulb, but i think the fact that system does not appear to work, hence no start, precludes this. More likely to be relay problem.

checked and swapped relays over etc, no glow lite at all and wont start, when turning over the glow light comes on internitantly

Take a look at the heater plug ECM inside the plastic box next to battery, make sure every connection is clean and tidy. If that appears ok try changing the water temp sensor for the ECU.

believe it not.... air was in fuel the pipe after the filter.. we changed the filter still the same tank was 1/4 full so filled tank up and its all ok no air in fuel pipe, the glow plug light still dont come on but it starts as it shud... any reason why air would be there on 1/4 but not when over 1/2 full?

Pickup pipe?

what and where is the pickup pipe? :)

Attached to the pump inside the tank. Sounds as though there is a split in it part way up. The pump will be pumping fuel through it then with low tank when the pump stops air is being drawn in. When the tank is full the only thing it can draw in is fuel because the split is covered.
