think there's two types,
6 bolt box - RTC6398
3/4 bolt box - QFW000020
6 bolt box - RTC6398
3/4 bolt box - QFW000020

dunno, never had that issue.
if you have got the right part, then the splines should be the same.
tbh, i thought the splines were roughly in the same position, just the 3/4 bolt has a smaller shaft.. can't remember

When i replaced mine, when the steering wheel was set so the wheels should have been pointing straight ahead like it did with the old drop arm, it sat to one side. So i put it all together and then just moved the steering wheel round a few splines to get it to all line up
