Drop arm and steering guard issues

Was at Essex off road last weekend and when coming out of the lake the bank was quite steep, the steering guard took a thump which trapped the drop arm, we had to strap the steering guard to my mates disco and pull it out to give clearance, but it has always been tight as you can see from the pic below, so my q is other than chopping a bit out of the guard that will weaken it what else could I do to gain clearance, or what have you guys done as I can't be the only one with this prob, but a search has turned up nothing

take a slice off fixing bracket on the guard with the grinder

Get yourself a 1 piece steering guard them 3 piece are s** t av broke loads there just not as strong as 1 piece

have ya got a foto of the guard front on?? My 3 piece guard has the tabs on the inside of the guard try swapping the sides over (If they will) see if that helps.

I took a slice outta mine with a grinder.
