DRIVERS WINDOW SUDDENLY NOT WORKING - ANY THOUGHTS?

Without any previous indication of a problem my D2 drivers window is not operating – won't go down, all other windows are fine. I believe the fuse is okay as the passenger window is operating normally and I think they are on the same fuse, both rear windows are fine. There is a clicking noise coming from the area of the body control module and I removed the door card to see what is happening there. Operating the window switch up or down creates a clicking sound in the motor but nothing is moving, I tried to budge the regulator arm independently but it doesn't move at all.

The motor clicking would indicate it's trying to work so I'm not sure if the regulator is jammed – if so how would you free it? From what I can read removing the motor and the regulator is a right royal pain so if there is another route I would be very pleased to hear it

You are right it is a royal pain if the window glass sticks down.
This happened to me in France so I had to undo all the bolts I could see and push it up out of the way.
It is possible that the three bolts that hold the motor to the frame have come loose but you have to get to them to tighten them and they are the glass side of the motor, typically.
Can you hear the motor whirring?
If so you are in more luck than if not..
There are threads on here about how to fix it. You won't necessarily need a new motor nor a new regulator they might just need taking off and sorting out.

If it is jammed in the up position you are in a much better position to be able to fix it easily.

The same thing happened to our 2005 range rover vogue, in the end it turned out to be a 'gunged up' regulator which we replaced, and you are correct it s a real PITA to do, definitely helps if there are two of you to manipulatee the regulator away from the three bolts that hold it in, it requires a lot of jiggling and swearing! Would also advise having a good selection of bungy cables in order to support the door card while you are working, saves an awful lot of time and effort as you are able to 'swing' the card around as you ease the regulator out. I managed to get not only the regulator but also the entire window 'scissor' strut for only £14.00 off ebay. Having the entire mechanism was invaluable to get the correct orientation of the repair. You need to remove the door card and check the window reugulator mechanisium is not broken, they can just jump out of the track or break off, as the runner wheels are just plastic, and new when I bought one was less than £40
