hi all yesterday my dash pod lights went off and drivers side side light, found that a fuse had blown. So replaced fused and all was well. Got in this morning out sides lights on and fuse blew. Put another in and sure enough it blew straight away. The landy is an 04 90 and has not been messed about with wiring wise. So any areas to to start having a look at. Another thing that might help. If I turn the radio on it is ok but when I turn the lights on the sound goes fuzzy like a bad radio reception. So tried it this morning while fuse was blown and it is a clear sound. Not sure if the rain has got anything to do with this fuse blowing. Marty

You have probably got a chafed wire which is making intermittent contact with the chassis somewhere. Where the headlight wiring runs from the headlight along the wing towards the bulkhead is a starting point. An 04 plate shouldn't have issues with perished wiring so more likely the wire is rubbing on something - time for a torch and a good look.

Thanks for the reply. Having a look at the wiring diagrams to front and rear side lights I now know what and where the loom plugs that go to front and rear lights. So would it be ok to unplug in turn and turn on side light and see if the fuse blows so I will know if it is front wiring or rear. Or worse case scenario after plugs and into the bulk head.

You could try that, also worth looking at the trailer connector (if you have one) to see if it is corroded or has water ingress (inside and outside the connector)

I seem to remember td5 defenders having a sub loom replaced inside passenger side wing when they were not very old due to chafing. I know it's other side but age does all sorts of things doesn't it

Hi all. Had a look at wiring loom going to front side lights first. Followed it down and first thing I saw was that the loom is very tight against two 40-50mm long bolts holding on the Mantec plastic jobby snorkel. So for now I put the wires on top of bolts and no blowing of fuses :). So loom has either been rubbing against the thread or it was caught when those holes where drilled. I'll have a better look at the weekend with a torch. Probably I have just lifted the wire of earthing on something else further down. But I can now listen to radio and have side lights on. :)
