Sorry to start yet another remote central locking thread but I need some advice, and there doesn't seem to be a definitive answer in other threads.

Problem was drivers door would not lock or unlock with remote central locking, (so all the times I had wandered off thinking my car and contents were safe, they were not) but if you used the key in the lock, or the door pin from inside all central locking would work fine, so ive removed the lock, stripped it to have a look, nothing wrong, re-assembled, and low and behold it (sort of) worked again,

Its currently out of the car, waiting to be re-fitted, the problem now is it works until I put the key in the lock and then it seems to stop the remote locking working to the door. I mess around with the little levers and get it back to a point where it locks with the remote, this is fine as I will just re-assemble back into the door (trying not to knock the key lock lever) and never ever use the key in the lock again, but its a bit of a pain in the arse for a luxury motor.

What is the actual problem with these mechanisms, and what causes this fault, I see no point in buying a whole new unit when I could just sort this one out.

Thanks

(Sorry for yet another long thread )

I think your problem will be related to the pin switches inside the lock mechanism - these are the tiny sensors that pick up key turns when you use the eka procedure - they wear over time, especially if you use the key lots, and end up with broken connections inside that are nigh on impossible to trace & fix (unless you're a genius sparky). I've seen a procedure for testing the electrical outputs of each switch within the lock, to find the duff one, but it seems a huge amount of hassle - most people end up buying a new mechanism (painful, I know). If I remember where I saw the article, I'll post a link for you.
