I have a TD4, 52 Plate (ES).
Now, all of a sudden the driver window stopped working (in the down position).

Is there a common error/fix?

If its the same mechanism as pre 2001 models its a common problem I think.
Its is operated on 2 wire cables and when the cablescome off the pulley or jam up they usually kink and a new unit is required. Temporary solution is to remove the 2 bolts holding glass to mechanism and insert a piece of wood to hold glass in closed position.
Not sure of price because mine went just after I bought vehicle s/hand and was done under warranty, Good luck.

OK, I got the door apart.

I dont think the pulleys are gone cos I was able to: once I got the cover of the motor.: to manually wind (took forever) the window up.

So, new unit eh? Bum.

When I press the buttom there is no clunking at all, no burn out... I changed switches, made no difference.....

(Maybe motor is dead?)

Any other ideas guys?

M.

Take battery off car and stand at door

Connet both wires from motor to battery using extra wire

One way will send up the other down

If this doesnt work its the motor, if it does its power to the motor

Thanks Chaps... Will try :)

Um... Fuses: If the other windows work.. Surely its not fuses.. There CANT be a separate fuse for the DRV Window???

:)

?

PS: It aint the cable, cos I manually wound the motor backwards to put window UP.

When I press switch there is ZERO noise , no clicking et al.

I wound the window down to pay for parking and it just stayed down!

W*nker.... it was a f*cking fuse!
Waste of time.
Thanks chaps.
I feel like a Tw£t.

No it was a useful and constructive learning experience. You have learnt that there is a seperate fuse for the drivers side window and that it's always better to eliminate the simple things first.

This post will also help other people who may have the same problem.

If you had claimed to be a hotshot auto electrican and then found out it was a fuse then you would have been a ****.

Easy done Lotus....If the wire does go in't future, DON'T go to a stealer and pay 90 odd ntes for a new regulator, get down to Halfords, get a 2 quid BMX gear cable, take the jobby to bits and swop the cable over...Stealers'll charge close on £350 to swop a duff regulator, then they'll send yer old un back to have a new £2 wire fitted, clean it, then bag it up and sell it agen.....W*nkers...

Oh, p.s., also do a search on here , loadsa threds about it....;)

My rear drivers window is completely u/s, press switches no sound at all but all others working. Can someone definatively answer. Is there a separate fuse for each window? Thanks. (2001 1.8)

Thakns chaps!
I have have NEVER have thought that the drivers window had a sep. fuse. (I undstand it for the tailgate to a point!! :) ).

The FL is my wifes car... I don't have probelsm with my Lotus or Triumph.. they barely have electrics. Though.. it has to be said, the more simpler the car does not mean the more simple the problem....

As I am sure you all know, LOTUS stands for Lots of Trouble, Usually Serious!! :)
