Ey up.

I've got a late TDi disco. It's got a "WA" chassis number and has the late type knuckle/CV housing that does not have the lower drain plug fitted, just a filler. Non-ABS.

We're planning a long trip, and want ideally common spares and reasonably strong stuff. My mates is a 94 300tdi. I run reasonably normal AT tyres not massive extreme things so I'm not giving it loads of stick like some. (235/70R16 insa rangers IIRC)

CV's
Now I believe I will have 32 spline CV's and 24 spline diffs.
I believe I could swap bits around... use 24/23 half shafts with AEU2522, this would mean changing the stub axles and hubs as well I believe? Believe the 2522 is shorter and needs a different stub with a bearing in the back of it, and the matching hub? Or am I being mental and a standard 32 spline diff is adequate for the type of tyres I'm using? Ideally we want strength and parts commonality, but do need to check what the earlier disco is using exactly. It is definitely a 24 spline rear, does this mean anything WRT the front?

Stub axles
A few people have told me stub axles interchange front to rear. But the part numbers all seem different for front vs rear kits. What's the craic? Does the front version have a bearing in to support the CV where the rear just has a seal for the halfshaft (on grease filled versions like mine)?

Autobox
My autobox lock up clutch slips when cold. Fine after 20 miles. For the moment I'm trying to avoid getting to lock up speeds for the first 20 miles but it's bloody frustrating. The oil has done 10k and I put a fresh filter on at this time. Am I likely to fix that by changing the oil or is something else amiss? It was dexron3 oil.
The oil is pretty dark in colour but didn't detect any serious debris or particular burnt smell.
