How much slack should there be in the full drive chain ?
ie
If I put my D90 into 2nd gear how far should I be able to push her back and fore until all of the slack in the diffs, TFB and Gear Box is taken up ?

Not sure on the official answer, but know that if you get underneath with the handbrake off, you can usually turn each prop about a 1/4 of a turn (maybe slightly less)

If one wheel jacked up and in diff lock, that wheel will usually turn just under a 1/4 of a turn as well before it locks up

That's about what I have, the car will rock forward about 9" (thats 228.6mm to you young things) when in gear. Most disconcerting, but if it's normal ..... i'll stop worrying.
