Hi gents I have a 2002 TD5 Defender with no drive at the rear diff , prop turns ok but no drive. I have jacked up the rear and spun the offside wheel with no movement on the nearside one ,If I spin the nearside wheel the offside spins in the reverse direction but very slowly , I have the closed end caps on the drive flanges ,any ideas please or HELP!!!!

how do you know you have no drive to rear, does closed end caps mean a 90 ,but in any case you need to pull half shafts out to see whether its either or diff

Yes sorry its a 90 , It will not go anywhere unless I use the diff lock , I can see the rear prop spinning without the diff lock engaged ,never worked on defenders before so don't know much about them at all

Jack one wheel up at a time and try to spin it with the handbrake on if wheel turns its most likely that side 1/2 shaft, if it doesnt spin then try the other side, could still be the diff, but shafts and drive members are quick and easy to check.
