Drilling one of Pressbrakes x-members

Either way its gonna get done, and I have a bloody ace x-member. If I had more time I would have sent the towing bracket down to pressbrake, but I couldn't wait that long, needs must!
 
sounds like a regular tow hitch bracket, took one off my defender for the rebuild and have the same holes on the galvd series chassis,

right angled piece fits under the chassis and bolts into pre tapped holes, two large bolts through the rear x member, usually has 2 removeable braces that bolt to the chassis further back

similar to this but without the dixon bate style runners , can get em to suit regular and military rear hole spacings

No its a home made job with extra holes either side of main tow bar fixings, perhaps he will post a pic
 
Oh right, didn't know about that, here is a link for anyone else that wants a look;

Rotabroach magnetic drills and Rotabroach cutters.

So I'm guessing those will fit a regular drill then, and that the hole/drill bit would still need to be lubricated whilst cutting?

definately a home brewed job but still looks designed to fit the 3 standard captive nuts underneath the x member.... as suggested drill in situ, with the thickness of pressbrakes member Im sure you could just tap the holes..

the three standard tapped holes look in the right place on my x member but clearly the x mermber face ones are well wide

that hitch looks like half of a removable tow point Have you got the other half??

When I first got the landy it had a nato hitch on as well as the towing bracket. I had the nato hitch taken off as it got in the way when uncoupling the trailer (I had a ball hitch at the time, now a pin and eye hitch). I sold the nato hitch ages ago, sorry.
 
I don't like the look of that as a towing bracket!!!!

Ok, errmmmm, yeah, why? :confused: Just aesthetics, or do you not think it is not capable? It is about 8mm thick, so I recon it would be way stronger then off the shelf brackets, especially when welded with Pressbrakes recovery point, that would be 9 blots attached to a 6mm crossmember with backing plates, yeah....must be aesthetics. ;)

it just looks to me like a dixon bate hitch bolted to the underneath of the chassis instead of the rear face. I was wondering how the towhich attaches to the bracket??

just dosent know good looks is all. But some washer under the nuts then weld the nuts to bolt so if it ever need removing you can get it off easier

Ok, here you go;

So it looks like a Dixon plate, but its not, its home made and again 8mm thick;



And here the two holes at the top have m8 or m10 bolts through which attach into the towing plate, its a tight fit to get the "Dixon" plate into the top towing plate (have to use a lump hammer), and the arms from the plate (which are coming off to fit new arms as the arms are ****e) have two bolts each.



And Meego, its all getting striped and painted again to make it look pretty :p

Looking at your photo's, it doesn't look like you will have much room for nuts and washers for the M16 bolts in the front, due to the thickness of the cross member material. I,m only looking at a photo, and giving an opinion..:rolleyes:
