I'm sure I've seen one fitted where the exisitng radio and clock are.

Probably need a bit of engineering and remember that the OEM radio did not have standard DIN wiring because there are external amps in the doors and streering wheel controls. You will need to get a conversion harness like this one;

bha8800 Range Rover harness;

Good luck!

im likely to be using an aftermarket unit, im in the USA at the moment is it cheaper to buy a conversion cable? and will it be compatible with most aftermarket units?
thanks

Josh,

You will need the conversion cable to convert the Range Rover wiring to standard DIN.

Not sure if you intend to buy the new head unit in the USA, but beware that the FM frequency spacing may not be compatible with European stations.

If I were you, I would give a car audio specialist all the kit and have them fit it. This will ensure that things like the steering wheel controls will work etc.

Good luck!

Josh,
Not sure if you intend to buy the new head unit in the USA, but beware that the FM frequency spacing may not be compatible with European stations.

IIRC the US / EU FM spacing is only different because the US doesn't use .0.2.4.6.8, they go .1.3.5.7.9 without the evens. So you can listen to 96.7 but not 95.8, for example. No worries using a European set.

The AM spacing is also different.

doesn't seem there is a double din available really without blanking the current radio slot and messing round with the right hand side of the fascia. Might get a flip out one for the standard slot. Where is the best place in the UK to get the ISO connector/adapter from?

You might not need one, does the vehicle have the Harmon Kardon sound system or not?? If it has it will have a subwoofer and cd changer in the boot.

Guys
Sorry to jump in on your thread,, But Dads P38 has the Harmon Kardon system...
I have the same "looking" head unit,Cd player in Boot and Steering Wheel Controls (mine never worked!) .. But No Door Amps, or Boot Bass Speaker....

Also from memory i think Dads has 3 plugs on rear of Head Unit,and i have 2 (not sure tho)..........Ive swapped his HK speakers with my standard LR ones...Does this mean i dont have the powered door speakers? Hence i can add a standard amp?and a bass speaker in boot?

Many Thanks..
and sorry to jump in!

not got the HK system as far as i know, not got the steering controls either.

In that case there wont be any amps in the doors. If you have a look over at www.roverville.us and then click on the UK link and then look at the second radio down that should show the one you have.

If so I THINK you should just be able to swap in whatever head unit you like. They are standard ISO connectors behind the radio. If you have an old radio about the place why not try it out when you get back from your hols :)
