Double Din conversion without moving the heater controls

Morning,
I can only assume this question has been asked before but is it possible to fit a double din style head unit without moving the controls down?
I’d rather not lose my seldom used cup holders, because I know as soon as I do I’ll need the damn things
I’m thinking it could be possible by trimming back the dash and installing a pod/shroud over the top but I’m just wondering if it’s done before and if it looks ridiculous or not.
If push comes to shove I’ll have to do it with the tried and tested method but I’m looking for an alternative.

Your best bet is to do as I did on mine move the heating controls lose the fold out cup holders and buy the American style cup holders that mount either side of the high/low range lever.
The only other way to get a screen in is a flip out screen on a single din headunit.
