Hi,

just went out to the supermarket (to buy nappies) and couldn't get out. when i pulled the door opener it felt a bit weird as if something broke. now it feels like the inside handle is not connected to anything. i opened the window and used the outside door which was fine. anyone know what may have happened.

i'm worried now, cos i love my rangie, bit with the price of diesel and a baby in the house, the wife's putting pressure on me to get rid of the rangie.

could really do with this being a cheap and easy fix - though of course nothings ever cheap with a range rover!!

please someone help

It will be the cable that releases the door, it will have snapped at one of the crimped on ends. Its no big deal to replace, recently did my passenger side one, total cost was £7 from dealer and about 45 mins (this included me ****ing about finding tools, and making it all look lovely and pretty inside). Part number is ALR6968 - the catalogue shows that the drivers side is slightly more expensive at £9 though - dunno why, still not expensive and easy enough to sort out!

cheers guys, just removed the plastic trim around the inside door handle. Wills you are correct, the cable has snapped at the crimp.
is removing the door cards easy? i only got as far as removing the tweeter cover an screw behind? not sure what to do next?

You are on the right track, remove the tweeter thingy, remove screw hidden behind it. Remove the screw holding the door handle surround on and remove surround. Remove the two screws underneath the handle built into the door card.

At this point I usually wedge my fingers between the door frame and card and start pulling but if you havent removed the card before I suggest you get a big flat blade screwdriver, cover up the end with a cloth or tape so you dont scratch the paint and wedge that in between the frame of the door and the card. Gently pry the door card away from the door frame, you will hear lots of loud pops as the clips release. Work your way round until it just pops off.

MAKE SURE TO DISCONNECT THE MID RANGE SPEAKER BEFORE WALKING OFF WITH THE DOOR CARD!

You will then have the foamy stuff inside the door to contend with. Depending on how neat and patient you are you can gently peel off the foam from the frame and get to the internals behind. If you are rough with the foam it will tear so lots of duck tape on hand to tape things back up!

Good luck!

thanks Wills. do i need to order new clips for the door card or will the original ones be reusable?
got the cable on order £9.89 + vat.

No, if you are careful you won't need new clips. Depends on how many times the door card has been on and off really. If the worst comes to the worst you can survive without a few until you can replace them, they are pennies each.

Be careful and you should have no trouble :)
