Morning all,
I'm doing a rechassis of my 200tdi defender 90. Most of the body is off and so far not too many surprises! One surprise was the panel on the tub that the seat box bolts through on either side. Loads of aluminium corrosion and on the passenger side the bottom of the panel has turned to dust! This looks like a common area for corrosion so what have others done to repair this? Is there a repair panel, or is it a new panel jobby?

Yes, YRM sell them, so do paddocks, £11 I think, drill out the rivits and drill and rivit new one in, I put seal sealer between the panels to help seal them up a bit, also, where it meets steel use a thin sheet or neoprane or rubber to keep them from coming into contact with each other and stop the galvanic corrosion from ocurring again.

Sorry, I've just read your post again and think I may have given you false hope!

You mean the back bit, you will need to fabricate this yourself, I used aluminium sheet and then rivited it in.

Curse you! No just kidding, I didn't think you could get them, seems stupid though given its clearly a prone area! Oh well, need to go get me some bits of Ali from somewhere then!

Cheers anyways mate

Can you take a pic? How big would the sections need to be for the rotten areas in yours?

On the metal sourcing, people keep on leaving bits of metal about on the road; almost like a wee stand with red borders and weird stick man pictures with shovels or something. Anyway, good source of ali if a good one is lying about.

Haha, they have got roadworks on my road actually, yoink :) Anywho, will upload a pic later as I am working at the mo, but I shouldn't need anymore than about 6 inches by 3 inches per side I think, it really is just the bottom bit of the panel with the two larger holes through it one on top of other

Kris
