My series 3 is starting to come together and i am hoping soon to set off on a few mini adventures in the UK, nothing crazy but just to settle her in. I was wondering what essentials i should have in the back, at the minute there is nothing but the starting handle, some water, and a bit of oil, anybody got what they claim to be the definitive list ??

Some one asked this before and the list proposed ranged from a solar powered battery charger to a blow up sheep

And a caged monkey :D

A mobile and RAC/AA membership :D

A basic toolkit at least. Might be worth adding your location to your profile for when you need a hand.

ha i was expecting some "blow up sheep" comments, im not proposing dessert crossings...just yet. More 3-4 hour jollies down to the south coast or the like. Guess it will be a case of forget it once, never forget it again.

Can't really go wrong with some basic consumables, selection of hand tools, moby, RAC membership and a length of copper wire.
I can't tell you how many times a little length of copper wire has got me out of trouble!

under the bonnet of my 200 disco, I have (wonky writings started)

I have, a 2 litre bottle of water, a litre of engine oil, a litre of power steering fluid, a litre bottle of unmixed screen wash, plus a small bottle of radweld type of thing.
some of it lies next to the brake master cylender, some under the air intake for heater..
oh, plus the normal junk you find under normal bonnets
but best of all is.......
my length of copper wiring type wire with two crocadile clips just clamped onto the top rad filler bottle holder metal.
need electric to a blown/broken source -
clip in on to fused supply and foobarred thingy.. jobs a good`en

I broke down on Thursday, no tools or wire or anything, I needed a screwdriver and a bit of wire, my keys worked as a screwdriver and I ripped some wire out of the loom :)

Drinking water, packets of dried soup powder, kettle, small gas cooker, tea/coffee, dried milk, sugar, sleeping bag, blanket, phone, AA/RAC card. May as well be comfortable while waiting for help.

:D
sounds something like I pack when doing ralleys on me scooter,
oh plus a 4 man tent & fold up camp bed...lol

but looking just where you live, yes I agree.

but afraid I`m surrounded by sea one side, and food outlets/supermarkets & food take away delivery services on the other side

couple of litres of water for drinking as well as putting in the landy. its all well and good having stuff to sort your andy but if you get stranded a drink is handy. i keep a whole brew kit in mine and a stove as i like tea

Socket set, or at least a full set of the usual spanners, screwdrivers, hammer (of course), jump leads, oil, clutch fluid (small bottles), jack, wheel brace, pliers, small pry bar, tow rope, shackles, beer or a more potent liquid, erm allan key set, tyre pump and accurate gauge, old cloths/rags. Probably missed something and it all fits into a medium size tool box bar the beer (needs to be in the cooler) and the socket set. I take this stuff on any reasonable sized trip. Even if you don't need it all its better to have it just in case or someone else might need it.

I always carry 2 x1/2spanners plus a fan belt in my series lll just in case - and lo and behold my pessimism was rewarded last month when the fan belt went west . Having made the repair ,I couldn't get back in the landy as my head had swelled with smug pride!!
