The little cups that come with it need to go in the roof .
To squash them in insert in roof holes , with a nut and bolt and a washer screw nut onto bolt add washer screw bolt in to cup do up nut whilst holding bolt head fiddly have fun , as for locations best to look at another one with a fitted guard use plastic dog bar holders as a template cut roof liner with a sharp blade just short of all for sides of plastic holder.

Basicly if it came from another car without a new fitting kit you won't be able to fit it as the four aluminium cups that fix in the previous car will remain . Unless you have had a dog guard fitted in yours previously . The new fitting kit comes with 2 plastic dog gaurd holders four bolts and washers and for cups that have to be fitted for the plastic dog gaurd holders to be fixed to the roof the wing nuts should of came with your gaurd .

cheers for the info mate i have just ordered an fitting kit might as well do the headlining while waiting for the kit to arrive

Cool it will all make sence when the kit arrives
Did you get the little wing nuts with the metal gaurd Those are inportant .

Excellent make sure you buy new dont get duped by eBay and alike or you will get the kit minus the fours fixing cups .
