Iv done a bit of searching but cant find owt specific to my prob........

MOT is coming up and had a leaky box. I have a 90 and somewhere along the lines it has had a '3 bolt' steering box fitted to it from a RR...... so went to scrappers and found the same type sat on a RR looking nice and oil free!

However, since iv fitted it the steering feels very heavy!

Could it do with a flush out in case any crap is inside (the box had the pipes cut when i found it at the scrappers, open to the elements posibly.....)

What does this sound like to you guys and would it benifit from a flush?

Cheers dudes, Scott

Hey Scott , I take it you have bleed the steering box ? ( lock to lock etc )

Hiya Steve, yes mate iv done all the usual. No pinky froff and all seems as it should....... until i try turning the wheel.

Im pretty sure all the uj's are fine and ball joints, as litrally the only thing iv swapped is the box! :(

Apart from the leaking the old box was great!!!

Iv just bin reading a thread on 'adjusting' the actual box (with the locking nut etc) Maybe it has been tightened right up???

Scott

it might of been over adjusted ?? , does the pump make a noise when moving the wheel ? , or is it that you got the pipes on wrong lol

No noise from the pump mate, but will check the hoses are right way now ya mention it ha ha. Although i didnt disconnect the metal connectors and they were different sizes so (hopefully cant get em wrong)

Have you ever had to adjust a steering box?

Fingers crossed then :) .
Yeah Ive adjusted steering boxes many times , but only adjust them up on full lock though ( if you adjust them up too much straight ahead , yeah be great with no play till you go to turn then it'll lock up and you'll be in the hedge or on the pavement etc ) . Obviousely de-adjust it first in your case :D

Cheers for that mate, iv never done one before. To de-adjust i need to screw the nut 'out'

Cheers guys, Iv de-adjusted the steering box and its freed it off quite a bit (still stiffer than the old box) But at least its not leaking now :D

Cheers, Scott
