as title i can't find one anywhere  and i dont really fancy forking out for one of those extra high lift jacks

cheers

Jack should be behand the nearside headlamp and rest of kit under rear seat:)

even if you find the original jack it only ok for wheel change at a push better to get a decent trolley jack and axle stands

I carry a 3 tonne trolley jack and 24" breaker bar in the back my Disco at all times, the standard bottle jack can be a bit nasty to use imo.

The wheel chock is quite hard to spot, I thought it was a protective cover when I first saw it and a few weeks later realised what it was ;)

standard jack is a widow maker.

What's the matter with the standard disco bottle jack? Ideal for changing wheels which is what it was designed for.

I agree - not many cars that you get an actual hydraulic jack with...

Nowt wrong with a bottle jack, better than the one sided scissor jacks most come with now - can't even get the matching side!

ok cheers all, the main thing i want it for is purely for the fact if i ever get a flat i don't wanna be flapping around the car looking for a jack at the side of a motorway with kids and mrs aboard, i will eventually invest in a decent ratchet type jack i've seen but this bottle jack will do for any emergencies

also to someone who said they are widow makers, if all someone were using was a bottle jack to work on a 2300kg car without even considering putting a wheel or something solid to stop it crushing them under there, a squashing may teach them a lesson lol

Took me a while to work out wot it was for anorl, i couldn't quite work out why they had fitted such a strong protective cover over an unimportent item and used such a flimsy clip to retain it

You mean a high lift?
Save your cash and stick to the bottle...!

No sane person is going to get under a motor supported by just a jack are they?

i have done before on my old astra but never with the standard half scissor jack thing always with my 2 tonne halfrauds jobbie

the half scissor ones are ridiculous they make themselves ****ed as they're screwed up! and for some reason the pressure they create even with the car in gear and hand brake on make the car just topple over, in this day and age the bloke who invented it would've been hung at dawn by the H&S officer lol

looking on the halfords website i may get the 4 tonne bottle jack, at under £20 and axle stands and still have change instead of buying a 3 tonne trolley jack at £100

I've got a couple of 2 tonne Halfords jacks and a 3 tonne which I got from machine mart. The 3 tonne is so much easier to use that I would say it is worth the extra investment. I use it on a couple of cars I have as well and it is superb, lifts them clear of the ground like they're not even there.

I could be wrong and i'm not sure about a private sale but I was always believed it was an offence to sell a vehicle without a jack or spare wheel ;)

it's on loan to me for an extensive amount of time as long as i fix whats wrong with it so i dunno what the law is on that, i never would've guessed it would be in the engine bay so it may well be there tbh

Many new cars now come with a spray can - not a spare wheel!
(Bane of my life -- recovery required due to puncture and no spare!)

MOT-wise there is no requirement to have a spare wheel - but if you do, then it must be in a legal condition.

yeah my mates got one and it is good but i'm currently out of work so money is a big issue for me, the building trade has not been kind in this last year :(
