Hi,

Well i mini serviced my landy yesterday, started it up and it seemed to be ok then it started to make a tapping sort of noise, i thought it was the lift pump, came on here and saw a couple of posts from Trewy saying that the vacuum pump makes that sort of noise. Went back out and used a screwdriver as a stethoscope and 99% sure its coming from vacuum pump.

I've also had an oil leak in that area, could it be the vacuum pump leaking oil?

My brakes have felt a little bit harder over the last couple of weeks, could this be because the vacuum pump is on it's way out?

A new vacuum pump at paddocks is £85 exc vat, is that a reasonable price?

Thanks

Hi I had the same problem on my 300tdi auto, pump was leaking oil from around where the rivits are, there is an 0-ring inside that leaks under pressure, so drilled out the rivits and sealed it up with gasket sealer and it has been fine now for months, I used bolts with lock nuts instead of the big rivits and no leaks, if you clean up the pump and then put a piece of white paper under the pump then run the engine and pump the brakes afew times you will see the oil leak out, well thats what I did anyway.

Ye trouble is i think it's completely nakered cuz it's making this tapping noise, so I reckon i'll be looking at a complete replacement if that is the case. but thanks anyway

your spot on mate

mine sounded like i had a rocker backing off and the brakes were like standing on a brick , get it changed soon , mine gave me no warning
i almost ran up the back end of a tanker , price seems ok

Cheers mate, that puts abit more confidence in it. Been and picked one up today, so hopefully i'll fit it later.

But seeing as it's a Landy summat's bound to go wrong!!!;)
