hand brake adjusted to ensure play is accounted for with worn pads, handbrake cable adjusted, but handbrake efficiency still poor, any common issues that i should look for?

Is it a little roll when you put it on? Or just full on not holding at all?

That is, if yours is like mine. I've got a transmission handbrake on mine.

It'll be full of **** and slime - take rear prop shaft off and the handbrake drum and clean it all up. Problem is crap can find it's way in there, but can't get back out. Did mine not so long since and it's spot on now. A bit of a faff but it'll do until I get an x-eng disc brake.

hi guys, I prevoiusly did as yorkshire steve said and cleaned the muck out of the brake, the brake did then work, since offroading the efficiency has gone, is it just fully of S**T?

Boydy, I tried the adjuster, the adjustment is spot on but still no brake, just full of mud?

hi boydy, handbrake is high, adjustment on the cable is almost out. cable stretched? could the mechanism in the brake be knacked?

a well adjusted tranny brake should only need a couple of clicks up from horizontal to be fully and securely applied - check the expander works, also for contamination of the pads, if it's oily the output seal has gone - old pads will become very smooth - a quick hard brush with a steel brush will help but new pads would be better

my handbrake area has been very odd today... went on the first long jounrney since i put the new transfer box etc in. When lifting off at higher speed theres like a rattling kinda sound, which goes if you just click the handbrake up so its not quite dragging.

Hvnt had chance to get under it an have a proper look yet though.
