Do the L322 have as many common probs as the p38

Fab photos Ant.

My p38 had some issues when I got it, but I worked through it with the help of all on here and just when it was running well, I got by accident a 322.

All the jobs on the p38 where quite straight forward once you start to understand them although burning of my door lock twice did really enoy me.

The 322 is such a different car but the lady of the house likes it more. I think because it is a super quite petrol and not a diesel.

Diagnostics and full on maintenance is a must cannot skip anything and if anything I over maintain it as I believe this is the cheapest thing to do.

My mate has my p38 now and loves it. It has been 100% reliable in his ownership and dare I say we maintain it also 100% and a bit more to keep it that way.

If you go 322, my advise is to take your time and buy wisely with or course the RR pot of money put aside for emergencies..

cheers.

I hate threads like this. I am so very very close to ringing a dealer about a 2006 V8 (no LPG, straight petrol) I have been coveting for some time. Then I read one of these threads about how horrific they are to run. Each time I think "ah, I will keep my ageing P38 for a bit longer."

As if you would go back to a p38 after owning an L322 lol

Two different motors !

You will recieve biased information on here from members who believe their models are best etc..

Best thing for you to do is test drive an L322 and decide for yourself :)

I went from an L322 to a P38 & very happy. Your old P38 must have been a real dog.

@tonybirch.

I had a 2000 P38 autobiography first which was like a stunned slug and not to be trusted. Things worked one day but not the next! Then bought a 2002 TD6 hse from an auction (with the advice of a motor trade mate) and had 3 years of fault-free motoring save brakes, oil service and tyres. And everything from the heated steering wheel and seats to the parking sensors worked! I then bought a 2004 4.4 v8 petrol/LPG autobiography with rear screens etc. and have had another 3 years of reliable service, again save the usual services etc. Now on 168,000 miles and getting 30mpg+

the key is to choose well adn don't go on low mileage or dealer service history - go on the vehicle service history and bills. I bought my latest from a RR forum member so could track the history from his posts. He is keen to have it back off me as he misses it despite having bought another L322!

Have to agree with Dolphinboy...

I have had stacks of Land Rovers, from early classics, LSE, softdash, Discoveries from early petrols, a 6.5gmcV8 Diesel to later ones, but I'd never even think of buying a P38, had several mates with them and they seem to spend longer in the garage than on the road...

So it seems that perception is related to personal experience as there are folk on here with very reliable P38's...

Bought my £80,000 Range Rover Vogue back in the spring for about 5% of it's original price, it has been as reliable as any other green oval I've owned, yes it's had issues but if you are fairly good with spanners and buy an IID diagnostic tool or something similar then they are just as easy to work on as any other, can't say I've thought parts are pricey either... I've changed a few bushes, fitted genuine parts and they are about £30 a pop... fitted new front airbags, which come with the shock as well and it was less than £500 for OEM Delphi ones, that last 12 years (you can get pattern ones for half that if you want) A set of front discs, pads, and wear sensor is less than £70.... There are that many being broken that second hand parts are cheap and plentiful...

I expected problems with mine at the price I paid, but I have to say it has been OK, most of the issues have been from poor maintenance by a previous owner or me drowning it in a 4ft deep river!!! you can't blame it for that...

If your going to buy one and pay someone else for it's upkeep then you will need a large wallet, garages see you coming and think if you own one you are loaded and price accordingly... but they are getting cheaper all the time...

I've seen a couple of those before and always been curious about them. Was it any good?

About as fast as a petrol and 30mpg.... but it was very front heavy, you could really feel it. The torque convertor wasn't matched to the engine very well so it changed gear far too early....

Made a nice sound though....

A mildly tuned TD5 would be a much better car....
