I am in Australia at the moment and its bloody hot and my daily user 1976 Ford F250 does not have air con so I bit the bullet and went and bought a 2008 Disco3 TD V6 SE and will be picking it up next week, so now I own 2 38s kept in the UK and this new one which i will keep out here so now I have to keep my eye on the disco forum although the Range Rover Sport is almost the same.

Nice motor but way more costly to run than the P38.

Seem to remember the air suspension pump was upgraded on them and without the firmware upgrade it can cause issues. Cannot remember when the upgrade happened though. There was something else that went on them as well. I think when the cam-belt was replaced you had to do the oil pump as well as they tended to fail around 100k miles, IIRC. Something like that.

plus 1, i also can’t remember when they changed the air compressors , either hitachi or the better later ones AMK

the oil pump covers have indeed caused catrostophic engine failure when they’ve split, newer styled are now reinforced

many garages won’t replace the rear belts as they say the body has to come off which isn’t true, watched the rear belt being replaced within 30 x mins , 7 x years or 105,000 miles

The parts for this model are horrendous out here but I have an account in England and get parts shipped out here cheaper. I wont be doing much milage as i only here about 4 months of the year but i will be doing a few thing to it like fit a snorkel and get the windows tinted as its unbelievable how much cooler it is when the temp is 35+C and also it protects the interior from deteriorating .Also out here steel bullbars are legal and im thinking of getting either an ARB one or TJM one as ! hit on a roo can pay for itself. I can also get a 170 long range tank for it if I want to do the desert tracks where fuel and water is few and far between.
I suppose I ought to post this on the discovery forum but old habits die hard and I have also found another forum dedicated to the Disco 3 https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/ so there plenty of help on the net

I have checked with the dealers on engine number and it should have the upgraded part in it as its the last year before it became a disco4. Also I have checked about getting parts shipped out here and I can save up to $700 on one order and that including freight as well

Should being the operative word. There's a post on the disco forum saying check it anyway because it's not guaranteed to be the later design even on later models.
