As i kept losing my spings with standard cones i now have ones that catch the last loop of the spring

Nice i have the same, but in my defence ref Gwyn they were already on the car.
Is that the 5"+ shocks on the rear as well?
What springs are you running
Lynall
bought some of them when i got my +5" shocks, they worked well when i had a go at a the twist off at a show but found in the real off roading world they frequently don't catch the spring and kept pushing the spring between the tyre and the chassis.
told the local terrafirma dealer about the prob who sent them back to them.
all of my mates who are fitting +5" shocks are going down the axle mounted dislocation (relocation) cone route.http://www.terrafirma4x4.com/products_php.php?cat=3

I run the terrafirma +5" shocks with axle mounted cones, never had a problem with them relocating...and they don't make the awful noises when relocating like some chassis mounted versions do.
My mate runs the same +5" shocks but with devon 4x4 chassis mounted cones but they didn't always catch the spring on return, he had to buy another set that stick out at a strange angle to sort it out
you could loose a spring if it dont re seat properly and gets pushed onto tyre, suppose also tyre damage is possible[JP];1663232 said:bollox... something I should have mounted when I fitted the new suspension, dislocation cones!!
had it on my disco and they were handy but for some stupid reason I didnt fit them when i changed the 90 suspension a couple of weeks ago!
what's the worst it can happen if the spring comes out of place and I dont have dislocation cones?

Surely the answer would have been to use a better, i.e. more appropriate spring length? As i kept losing my spings with standard cones i now have ones that catch the last loop of the spring

if spring touches tyre it gets pulled from retaining plates, there's a photo on here somewhere of me in my undies thigh deep, searching a water hole for a spring, ohh and i had retaining plates and cones fitted

It does. What springs are you running? And do you have cranked trailing arms?[JP];1664793 said:thing is... now thinking about it.
when I was fitting the suspension, I had the axle as low as it could go and the hi-lift on the rear cross member lifting as high as possible, so it got to a point that as I was lifting the body/chassi, the axle was following.....
and still had to use spring compressors to get the spring in there.. so surely, by the time I hit maximum articulation (where the axle can't go any further away from chassi) the spring wont come off?
my springs are quite long apparently...
does this make sense?
