1st off im new to land rovers, so please be gentle with all the "its simple, retard" comments

is it possible, and is it relatively easy to convert my series 3 brakes from drum to disk ?? and if it can be done what parts will i need, from where, and at what cost ??

thanks alot, Mark

Other than shoving Rangie axles under yer series motor, Rocky Mountain do a disc conversion for leafers. Have a look through the previous threads by Marcus but be warned, it's rumoured that this conversion is expensive.

dont know if it makes a difference but i'd also like to convert over to coil springs at some point, so would a whole new underneath be a better option than trying to get disk brakes and coil springs to fit my series bits ??

how hard would the rangie axles be to fit ?? ive heard that most land rover / range rover stuff is interchangable, does it go as far as whole axles ??

Forget the coils option Dogsy, its a very dodgey subject. If you convert the chassis to take coils then you will have to take the Landy for a SVA test resulting in a possible "Q" plate. Insurance premiums are then expensive. Email me if yer want and I'll explain it in more depth chap.

where are you based i know where there is a coil converted chassis for a leafer in north wales, its in good nick too

im in Wirral mate, not far from wales at all. infact if i look outta my window i can see the coast road and Moel Fammau :D

mines only recently had a new chassis on it and its in amazing condition so i'd be a bit worried about swapping the whole lot over, especially if it would need an SVA test afterwards. i was thinking more about welding spring cups to the chassis and doing it that way.

these disco axles are sounding a good option for the brakes tho. would i need anything else for the conversion, or just the axles and attached bits ??

thanks for the help guys :)

Mark

new hoses wont be a problem - it'll be getting a lift kit fitted (either to its leafs or to coil springs) so il need longer hoses anyway.

could you get a price for the axles whenever you next speak to the guy please ? no rush on them, ive still got some bills to pay to get the landy on the road properly so cash is tight for the next week or 3 (or untill i get some foreigners in work)

cheers, Mark

nah that would be too easy !! i like a challenge ;)

not overly fussed about going to coils as ive now found out i can lift it on the leafs, but i do need a brake upgrade ready for the V8 to go in. plus any upgrade that helps you stop quicker in an emergency is worth the money IMO

and i dont really like the look of the 90

you could always put parabolics on your landy i did and it rides like a coiler aswell. as for brakes put lwb drums and back plates on cant remember the size but their pretty good and they fit straight on. the disc conversion aparently is for the front only last time i checked.
and you could put rangie diffs in aswell - just take not of where the oil filler is - diff or axel casing.

landrover lightweight series 2a
series, rangie, defender hybrid
volvo 360
volv0 760
vauxhall meriva (boo)

any more info on this please, may be interested

I'm with Wes on this'un. As you're new to Landies, take a bit of time to decide what you want & why. For the mahoosive expense of fitting discs you'd be better off making sure the drums you've got are in top condition. Consider fitting 11" drums off of a LWB if you do want an improvement.

Parabolic leafers are probably a better way to go then coils on a Series. If you're changing that much..........reckon it'd be better flog it & get a Defender!

Make sure Series parts are well serviced & doing what they're supposed to & you'll be amazed what they can do
