OK, not actually a LR per se...
4-cylinder NA, Bosch pump similar to the 200/300 TDi ones.
the other day, it dropped onto 3 cylinders. Pulled into a layby, found
nothing obvious wrong, and continued, and shortly the 4th pot re-asserted
itself.
yesterday, it did the same, and then after a while, went onto 2 and then
eventually onto 1, which resulted in inadequate forward motion.
got a lift back home (twas onyl about 3 miles) and came back with tools.
Diesel present in pump, both sides of the low-pressure system. Cracked off
injector pipe at #1, turned it over, tightened it up, hey presto, we now
have 2 cylinders playing and it'll run again, and in short order bled the
remaining injectors and restored it to full working order.
Now since the tank was over 3/4 full and the fuel filter appears to be
nearly new, anyone offer suggestions as to how this state of affairs came to
pass? I did wonder if it was sucking air from somewhere.
the initial misfire is regular, not erratic - it misses evenly on one pot,
and later appeared to miss evenly (FSVO even) on 2 pots.
