I found the big red wiper relay behind the rhs footwell side-panel. It was half full of water causing the electronics to run the wipers all the time. Took it apart, cleaned it, all OK.

The headlight relay was next to it. That was full of rusty sludge and was stopping it from making contact. A new relay and all is fine.

Hope that may help someone - oh, and avoid wading so deep next time!

was going to say knackered column swiches..... guess you wernt wading that deep...... ive never understood why people wade for fun.... water especially dirty water always causes problems somewhere

Might pay to clean the rest of the relays and think about moving the panel or boxing in up.

Bet you're going through that puddle again.
