Hi there. I have rattle on my 1994 300TDi discovery that I’d really like to get to the bottom of.

The rattle sounds just like two metal plates vibrating against each other. The sound comes from the passenger side foot well/glove box/under dash area and only occurs at certain low revs (usually a little too low), in any gear, and only for a few seconds. The sound is quite loud and doesn’t appear to be getting any worse but I have noticed that it is starting to rattle in the same way when on a rough track but independent of rev range (more to do with speed).

I had the glove box out, got my other half to drive along in the wrong gear, with my head under the dash – its as loud as you like under there but I just can’t find what’s causing it!

Anyone come across this before? Any suggestions much appreciated.

Cheers

Hi Niblets,
I had an almost identical problem on my Disco 1... I thought the noise was coming from the front passenger door. The noise would only occur at 2,000rpm - it drove me nuts!!

After many weeks/days of fiddling around I found that the front near side bumper-to-wing bolt was loose. 2 minutes with a spanner and the noise problem was solved for good!!

I hope yours is as easy to sort out.

Regards.

Hi gpd36, thanks for reply.

Sure enough loose bumper mount bolt, tightened up now but unfortunately still have rattle though!! At least the bumper won’t drop off now! :)

Cheers
