Discovery V8 Question

Toying with the idea of a Disco2 V8 and getting an LPG conversion. Does
anyone on here run one and if so what do they think of it versus a TD5
(either would have auto transmission)? Also, how much should I pay for an
LPG job assuming I buy a standard car and one more question, where would the
LPG tank go?

I have a V8 with gas conversion my wife has a TD5,i cant drive hers as its
painstakingly slow compared to the V8.I have a prins vsi conversion which
returns appx 18mpg on average this is equivilant to 36mpg not bad but this
is a average overall.Because i have ace + sls i have had my petrol tank
removed and to 35L gas tanks installed with a small petrol tank in the rear
o/s wing,my only gripe is the range on gas is not that great so im thinking
of another small tank in the boot as i still want to be able to use 1 rear
seat.

I run a DII 4.0 V8 auto, converted to LPG using an OMVL Dream 21N system. I
installed a 90 ltr (72 ltr gas capacity) tank mounted fore and aft on the
left hand side of the boot, still leaving room for my dogs beside it. When
you weigh up the costs involved in fitting twin tanks in place of the petrol
tank and then consider (as you have discovered, Tim,) the limited range with
only 56 ltrs of gas, it just doesn't make sense unless you really must keep
the boot space. I can still fold down the larger part of the rear seats to
fit any longer items in, I get around 16mpg on gas compared to 17.5mpg on
petrol over the same journeys.
As for cost, if I were converting another one and knowing the installation
issues encountered with my own, I'd be looking at a figure of around £1850
all in. For comparison, I charge around £1750 for Disco 1 with 2 sill tanks,
or P38 with a single 95ltr torroidal, both using the same SGI equipment, the
difference being changes in the ease of installation. A decent V8 on LPG is
a revelation when compared to a TD5 in my opinion.

Note that you can get a UFO-shaped one that's 80l, 64l useable. Not much
better, but makes a difference of maybe 25 miles in the tank range.

Does add to the cost, especially if you add in the cost of a reserve petrol
tank.
