Discovery td5 ACE ecu problems???

I have been getting a thump from the rear of discovery for months but last Sunday it suddenly got worst. I had previously changed rear shocks, anti roll bar links and watts linkage bushes to try to cure this issue. On thursday I drove it to a garage and once on the ramp I noticed one of the new anti roll bar links had been pulled apart. On closer inspection the ACE long arm and accuator were seized solid against the underside of the body. I removed the anti roll and freed it all up. I then reconnected the system (fitting new sealing washers) and it has done exactly the same thing again after a short test run. There is no warning light on the dash like in all the other ace related posts. The thump seems to being caused by the accuator hitting the body as it is jamming up. I read on rave that the ace system goes into lock down when the ecu is not working so it acts like a normal roll bar but surely it shouldn't be putting that much strain on the links???? Does anyone no more about this, it has my local dealers and land rover garages stumped???? and I can't afford £70 a hour for them to faff around with diagnostics.
 
Sorry cant help your problem but i dread the day my ace goes funny, I dont even know if my d2 has got it... Iyt does corner well better than my old 300 so i suspect it has..
 
when you say you have no light at all do you get the warning light on when you first turn the ignition on if not then you need to get it on a computer to see what the problem is (not just a fault code reader) the ace system can be switched off in the bcu so car dealers can just turn the ace off to save fixing a problem (have herd of the led being removed out of the dash) this just lock the anti rool bars solid
 
I wouldn't know which the ace warning light was. I'll take a look tomorrow to see if it comes on. I meant there is no warning light on once started and under way. It looks like it is locking solid but in the wrong position. Surely it shouldn't be against the boot floor?

Where did you buy that new link from?
Quality isn`t everywhere the same. Had the same thing with mine, new link built in and everything ok. Also no light on the dash.
 
Ive had a few issues with ace system recently and also replaced rear drop links due to excessive play. Just thinking from memory of lying underneath the car but surely the only way the ace actuator could travel to this extent is if the drop links part completely!? Did you replace the drop links after the first "incident"? Seems to me like the problem is in the drop links and not the ace system control.
 
Whatever Landrover garage was stumped over this need to go on a course to brush up on their skills. What independent was this, just to remind us not to take our landies there. Glad it's all ok now tho! Oh yeah what make were the link arms & where did you get em? Did you get a full refund?
 
Nice one landroverfanatic, hope thats it sorted..... for a while.To be honest im avoiding garages at all costs these days due to constant bad experiences and horrendous bills for the privelege. On this site someone always knows how to get round problems and you'll save a fortune on labour costs as i have. But still stick to genuine land rover parts ;)
 
The parts were off ebay. Thought you couldn't go round with some anti roll bar links. They didn't cost that much so I can't be bothered to get a refund. I always look on forums for answers first but wanted a second opinion so went the garage. I fairness to them there is actually several things gone wrong together. The watts linkage bushes went and my fitting inferior parts didn't help. I am now going to fit a poly bush set as at 11 years old the bushes are all going to go at some point. The vehicle is used to tow an ifor williams so I want to make sure it is up to scratch. I wish I could afford genuine parts but most of the time I can't and need to get the vehicle up and functional as soon as possible, so have to get what ever I can next day delivery.
 
I hear what you're saying mate, we all hate being "off the road". There can be quite a difference between genuine and non-genuine part costs. My biggest cost comparison was between paying a dealership to do work for you with genuine parts and doing the work yourself with genuine parts. That alone has saved me hundreds of pounds recently. Glad you got sorted out with the links anyway. While on the subject, ive recently always been looking online for the genuine parts, but as it turns out, my local land rover dealership could match and even better the online parts prices! Just something to keep in mind if you do want parts quick. ;)
