discovery smoke in foot wells

hi boys and girls the other morning on way to work my discovery 1 cut out and and food wells had a lot of smoke in them the car will not start now are the any common faults i should look for thanks for any help
 
Check the earth strap from engine to chassis. My mate had the same problem. Turns out his handbrake cable was acting as an earth strap and it melted. It also took out a big chunk of his wiring harness as well. Are all your lights other electrics etc working ok??
