Discovery I sunroof question

Hi there. I'm new to the forum, also new land rover owner. Got a 97 disco I around 2 months ago. The sunroofs were sealed when I got it, I assume the previous owner had them sealed up because of leaking. Now, I just got the front sunroof unsealed and leaks fixed (hopefully), only to find that the sunroof only slides open half way... is that normal? isn't it supposed to slide open all the way? i'm in kenya and want to use the vehicle for safari so a bit disappointed i can't pop my head out the top!

unfortunately due to the design of the roof, they will only open half way.

If you are in Kenya, why not take the whole sunroof out complete with the frame?

Hmmmm.... or might a lion jump in?
