Discovery dim dip not working

I had the brkoen wire thing, dipped headlights failed whilst driving on the motorway, had to drive home on front fogs. Thought switch had failed and discovered broken wire on dismantling. Solder wire back and headlights now working but not dim dip.

Bought a new unit as advertised on ebay, dim dip is now working. Will remember NOT to buy used electrical parts again without proof of working. Will carry out testing on faulty units, hope to repair them.

Assuming that your dip and main beams are ok, then all you have to look at is the dim/dip resistor and the relay although there is a link from the multifunction unit to the relay to tell the relay the engine is running or not.

I have had my resistor disconnected for a few years as I have LED side light bulbs fitted. It looks a bit strange with the white LED light along with the 'yellow' of the dim/dip.

Note to Discool - Thanks for your contribution very helpful but the resistor/relay set up you have wasn't installed on the Discovery until model year 1995. At first I thought I had this set up and spent ages moving wiring looms about in the engine bay without success. I did however manage to break one of the fusible links because the crimps were so badly corroded causing the heater blower/air-con system not to function . The earlier models were fitted with a Lucas module which I eventually found fitted inside the dashboard behind the relay bank, got help from my local Landrover guys this retails inclusive of vat at around £105 hence the search via ebay.

I have also changed my headlight and pilot bulbs for ones that issue a blue/white light even on dim/dip very impressive but a bit naff in the fog. I use seperate fog lamps with conventional 55 watt H1's that produce the old yellow tinged light.

Headlights and pilots from ebay: http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Xenon-Bulbs-Direct (BLUE-55w-h4_501_RP_915 - LAND ROVER DISCOVERY 89-04 XENON HEADLAMP BULBS HID) cost £7.94 including postage.

Hi string, thanks for the info on the dim/dip although I can only find the one dim/dip unit in my parts catalogue but yes it's from VIN MA.

I'm thinking about these bulbs, I'm using the Halfords Xenon + 50 which are white. I do know some MOT inspectors don't like the bulbs with that blue-ish tinge as I found out with the LED side lights on the other car I own.

Looks a good site I can get the kit bulbs for headlights H4 and also my spotlights H3.
Regards
