Disco 4 10MY Mileage: 178000 miles Diesel
Hi,
My Disco4 is smoking (white cloud of smoke) after 15 minutes of driving and it smells like diesel fumes. I'm having this issue for long time now but suddenly it stopped smoking completely for 2 months and now again it started smoking. actually I thought it was turbo drain pipe issue so I checked and it has the shorter modified pipe already.
Don't understand why it stopped for a while and again it started smoking. Any idea??

Thanks in advance
Sasi

Thanks for the reply Johnlad.
I just checked the general diagnostics and no fault on the Engine ECU.. how to check the diagnostics for the injectors???..
When I checked the maintenance history it says injector seals (2&3) replaced because of fuming smell from engine bay..
Is it worth checking the injectors seal???

Thanks

Using a diagnostic reader such as the iid tool, go into live values and select injection, it will then show 6 different cylinder numbers, any great variation in the figures would point to an injector not functioning correctly.

Have a look with a decent diagnostic at the injector values

I am not sure if you can read injector balances on the 3.0 engine?

Used to be a common issues on the Audi 3.0 tdi, the white smoke happened to the wifes early model.

I’ll check on mine tomorrow. At least it gives me something to do.

There is/was a guy on the D3/4 forum with a theory on the crank issues surrounding the 3.0 engines, and it was whilst the crank was not that manly it should be able to stand normal work, but if one or more inejctors has an issues and overloading some cylinders, the loads implied on the crank could be uneven and possibly cause the failures.
Certainly the 2.7 along with many other common rail diesels can have injector issues at 100+k.

That’s an interesting theory but there’s a lot of crank snapping issues on low mileage vehicles,
Got to say it’s at the back of my mind every time I drive mine. I’ll be getting the warranty direct set up once we are allowed to drive anywhere.

His theory was the reason I changed all 6 injectors on my 2.7, one or two had been running close to or over their max limit.

The idle from cold was erratic, makimg the torque convertor jerky, once up to temp it appeared to be fine, utt I started to weigh up the 1200 quid for 6 injectors, versuss the cost of a 2nd hand engine and the hassle of fititng it, the injectors won.
