Discovery 4 rotary gear selector

Hello. Can anyone tell me if I swap the rotary gear selector for a new unit, will it need programming in or is it plug and play. Its for a 2014 discovery 4. 8 speed auto. The reason for replacing is because mine sometimes locks in park and selector will not turn. Thanks Eric. Ps been quoted £330 for a new unit

May i ask , before changing it have u ensured the loom is ok as part of the interlock system
 
Hi, I do not have the testing equipment to check the loom. I have checked connections and cannot see anything obvious with the wiring. I think its fairly common problem with senoid that allows the selector to turn when the brake pedal is pressed to fail.
 
Morning All, Didn't want to start a new thread as I have the same question as Disco4xs (as above).
Have a 2016 LR4 Landmark all running fine until yesterday when the gear selector won't come out of Park.
Brake switch is all functioning ok.
Research seems to suggest this is quite a common issue with both LR and Jag fitted with this style of gear selector.
Seems a straightforward job to replace (he says!).....
If I ordered a new part would it need to be programmed to my vehicle?
