What's the worst that can happen?

Slow & steady wins the race with these things.

If you try to remove the old 3 bolt first and it comes off easy then you can order the 4 bolt flange on next day delivery ;)

Very good point! it's only 27 quid anyway. Second hand unknown condition diff is around 50 quid from a breakers near me but then that's a lot more work to do than just changing the flange..

Ordered the flange, going to give it a go.

I swear I spend more time buying and fitting parts to this than actually driving it.. lol

Gwyn Lewis rear prop turned up yesterday, thing of beauty as always.

So did the new exhaust and wheel bearings. Mum was a bit confused what the hell I have bought now lol

I believe my front speakers turned up today as well.

Going to be a busy weekend, luckily the misses is finishing a nightshift Friday night so Saturday morning I get some peace and quiet and can fit some parts ;)

You’ve inspired me to replace my shot old ones, just ordered some cheap pioneers as the stereo is pioneer and I like things that match!

I had another brain wave, my subs are original and therefore blown, rather than spend £50 replacing them I’ve ordered a pair of underseat bmw subs which I’m going to use the oem amp on, I have high hopes that for the £30 they cost me I’ll actually be able to hear them unlike the ones way back in the boot!

Haha nice one! Like other people have said it's good to have a working stereo that sounds decent!

I have the original rear door sub as well but I'm 99% sure it doesn't work at all. Tried to sort it with no luck. The BMW sub idea doesn't sound too bad! If it wasn't for water getting in and ruining them I'd be tempted, maybe there is a way to mount them on the roof at the back behind the rear sunroof haha

I don’t really plan on water coming in but I’ll mount them as high as I can under the seats and see what happens. I have a drive to Yorkshire at the end of the month and it would be nice to have music that sounds vaguely similar to what was intended!

Haha yeah, I don't plan on either but being a land rover and going off road the water will find it's way in somehow.. Just a thought considering your profile photo is you doing a massive splash!

So as the rear doughnut was well and truly dead (although I have seen worse) it was causing all sorts of vibrations, time to replace.

To remove the old flange, did a technique from a youtube video, works so so well.

Amazing looking Gwyn lewis rear wide angle and extended propshaft.

Should last well :)

Oh also wired in some LED's to the rear door but they are extremely dim for some reason. Either they are **** (ordered from AliExpress.. lol) or something isn't right. They're not flickering and connections are all fine as far as I can tell.

Sunday I went to take the hub off and it was all going good. Prefitted bearings into the new hub in the morning and then went to fit it in the afternoon

State of the studs on the original hub
IMG_20180225_121424_zpsmssyt2of.jpg

The wheel wasn't actually bad at all, the holes look fine so I should be able to reuse it no issue. The wheel nuts though I will have to replace as they were rammed onto the studs just to get me home. Had to use a little WD40 on them to get off with a huge bar.
IMG_20180225_120416_zpspt8l9evl.jpg

...and then i ran into the issue.

This here is the standard hub, you can see where the hub seal goes the ridge is fine. No issues there.

IMG_20180225_134602_zpsq45oe4dl.jpg

Then the 'new' second hand one I bought, I made a rookie mistake of not checking it properly. After fitting all the bearings and the seal etc, the ridge that goes against the stub it bloody worn out!!! Wish I checked it better. Meant that the disc was rubbing on the bracket for the break caliper.

IMG_20180225_134558_zpsesu8ljr3.jpg

Getting another one today hopefully, then can fit ready to go out in the snow... really disheartening after all the work. Means I've got to get new bearings now if I can't get these ones out without damaging. Yet another delay but hey ho gotta soldier on.

So it snowed a **** ton the last few days. Yesterday I was getting rather pained knowing I own an Discovery and can't use it so I thought I'm going home and going to get it sorted one way or another.

IMG_20180227_074152_zpsnxhqpftv.jpg

The idea I had was to remove the good studs from the broken hub, and transfer them to the good hub with the broken studs. So in theory all I had to do was remove the discs, put a wheel nut over the stud and hammer it out.

First annoyance was getting the abs disc out of the good hub but it came out eventually. Was filthy so gave it a good clean before refitting.

IMG_20180227_132535_zpsfulfwauo.jpg

Next bollocks thing was one of the bolts that secures the disc to the hub snapped off under barely any force. Managed to get it out though my uncle came the rescue who had some special bits to remove them. Think they were called Spiral flute extractors.. Anyway they got that out all good so was just a matter of popping the studs out and refitting.

New-old studs fitted to the hub

IMG_20180227_143528_zpsqmwhdm5m.jpg

Obviously a few of you may say why didn't I buy new bolts. Well, firstly nowhere was open near me and secondly if I were to order online they wouldn't turn up because of the snow so this was the next best solution! Worked out great in the end. refitted the hub, new bearings and bearing seal. Cleaned the hub properly, regreased etc usual jobs. Refitted the wheel and bam off we go in the snow!!

Even after clearing the landy, the next morning i was greeted with even more snow. Got Thursday and Friday left of snow and Friday is meant to be the worst day. Literally the most snow I've seen since 2010.

IMG_20180228_074943_zps4jy6ouud.jpg

Stay safe all!

Oh and regarding the wheel, as the stud holes are marginally enlarged, I'm taking it to get the tyres swapped over with my spare. just to be on the safe side.

Got the tyres swapped over. Had a lot of fun in the snow, will upload some photos soon.

Sheered a caliper bolt, so the drivers brake caliper was ratcheting against the wheel. Got to get new bolts. Haven't had a change to inspect the caliper/pads so will check those when I next get the wheel off.

Was a scary ride home but got it back in the end. Luckily broke down mostly local, put a spare bolt in place but couldn't tighten because wrong thread.

Some more photos from when I was out in the snow.

This one was fun, I had to clear the way of a snow drift that was about 3ft deep. Was blown over a country road and no one could get through. Didn't stop me getting stuck though! luckily got towed out as was with my mates.

IMG_20180301_200600_zpszrj3f9vz.jpg

This was also fun, see the pattern here? haha. This is about a half mile long byway but it's perfectly straight, but has some dips etc so in the snow it made for a smooth wavey ride. Could get some speed up as well, just enough to feel like you're surfing waves! Few bits were about 2ft deep so did get a lot of snow stuck in the steering guard.

Finally got my speaker spacers in the post. Was literally JUST enough. Was still a squeeze. Not sure if I like the covers for these over the spacers, they are slightly too large and the standard ones are a perfect fit. Plus the big gaps II'm worried about mud getting in and ruining the speaker. Will probably change it over. Will also spray the MDF spacer as well, probably with some stonechip, only as it gives a nice plasticy look that will blend with the speaker cover.

Okay and finally, here is the damaged that was caused by the brake caliper bolt sheering off.

Going to order a new/secondhand caliper soon. Until then, I have bought some new caliper bolts which I will fit in the next few days, until the new caliper arrives and then I'll change it over. Thing is, it will probably be okay. It's only cosmetic, but every part of me inside my brain is saying - it's breaks so regardless you should change it..

Also ordered a TF811 Terrafirma Steering Damper as I noticed that one of my bushes has decided to fall off mine? If that's possible... the damper is only a crap Britpart one anyway that was on the car when I bought it. This should be a nice little upgrade that should just help general drive ability. Only 36 quid. With that I will also change the drag link bar over finally, had the HD one for ages.

Need to also fit the exhaust but the bolts where it goes onto the turbo are ridiculously tight, I need to man up some more to get em off. Look like they have been there a while. Has the original land rover cat on as well so.. who knows.

Also tidied up my electrics under the dash. Where I was adding stuff it started getting a bit tangled up so I just neatened it up a bit. Going to label the cables in time as well. Also, a small but annoying job I finally got round to doing was heat shrinking the ends of the wires from my battery to the fuse box, just neatens it up, and I also put a rubber bung through the bulkhead where the negative to battery wire goes as there wasn't one before and I was worried about cable chaffing, luckily none had occurred.

Got the bits together enough so I can drive it for a while. Wow, it feel so good on the road now. I checked over everything, all bolts tightened or torqued up to correct settings all wheels checked, propshaft back on all bolts tightened and checked, wheel bearings checked etc and it feel so smooth on the road now. A bit quieter as well as I put the back seats in to try and dampen down the noise and that helped, considerably. Most of the noise I hear now comes from the footwells, probably going to invest in some Lizard skin at some point for the interior to dampen down the noise a bit plus it'll protect it some more also.

Snowed again here, although I like it getting bored of it being cold lol! Was nice having a working heater in the cold now though.

Some photos of some lanes in good old Kent.

Looking at this photo I'm thinking I might get some wheel spacers and then some extended arches to suit, just looks better imo

Girlfriend was a lot happier and more willing to come out now the heating works, still came out with a hat and gloves on though. She then proceeded to fall over in the mud which I thought was absolutely hilarious, so I took a photo. Promised I wouldn't post it on here though.. lol

Hopefully fitting steering damper and HD drag link bar soon, although I'm thinking whilst I am at it I may as well get a relocation kit and do that all at once.

Cheers mate, I agree plus the wider track should help with grip through the ruts (running more on the side walls of ruts either side) and stability on road :)

Just bought new diff and transfer box oil, might get enough time to change it tonight after work. Noticed that my transfer box has a fair amount of backlash. I'm hoping doing the oil change will quieten it down a bit for now (unlikely) but it does seem to be a bit low on oil so it's worth doing that to prevent the box from ****ting it's self too soon. Will look to get a spare one in the future just in case it does go.

Also going to adjust the tappets soon as well, ordered a feeler gauge. Engine does make a distinct ticking noise which gets louder with revving. Been advised it is them just from the noise but just in case I will check and redo them and see if the noise stops and go from there.

For the time being, rather than keep adding and modifying parts I'm just going to get some serviceable items done then I have less to worry about. Sounds like my NS CV joins is potentially on it's way out as well, although it could be low on grease. as I think I had a leak there a while back.

Other than that, was out the other night for a good 5 hours or so in the dark doing some lanes around kent, some extremely tight and scratched/dented my roof a bit but part of the fun.
