This might sound strange but in the past week or so my Discovery 300TDi has developed this problem: When I start off it will be fine for a few seconds and then "stutters". I take my foot off the accelerator and then put it on again and off we go. Then it will do it again. It does it whether I'm going slowly or fast and for a split second the "check engine" light will come on. I'm thinking along the lines of the fuel pump or the injectors. Can anyone help me? Anyone had anything that sounds similar? Many thanks for taking the time to read this.

This could be a multitude of things.
Start off with the easy ones first.
Clean out the sedimenter, that's found over the top of the rear axle, drivers side, often gets forgotten about and fills up with water & crud.
then change the fuel filter.
*Note: for both of these, to save having to bleed the system, fill the new/clean ones with fresh diesel before putting them back up.
now try it, if it still is a problem, then it's down to either the pump or injectors.
I've just had my injectors refurbished, what a difference, costs £150

where did you get them referbished?
I live near Chorley Lancs, there's a place there called "Chorley Euro Diesel" but I do know the guys there, so did get them done at discount.
They test them and if nedded they'll strip and clean them, fit new tips etc & whatever they need.
If you're going to take them out yourself, if they've been in since the vehicle was new, then they can be somewhat stuck.
I found that by first soaking around them with WD40 or similar, remove all the pipework, and by taking off the rocker cover (I was resetting the tappets at the same time) It was easy to get a fairly large adjustable spanner onto the flats, slowly working the injector side to side to free it off and remove it.
Make sure the small copper washer comes out as well, if it doesn't, the best thing is the tang of a round file down the nozzle hole to get it out. (new washers come with the recon injectors)

Thank you 'Gafferjim'. I'll give that a try as soon as I can. If that doesn't fix it, would you recommend I change all the injector's at once or one at a time to try and find the broken one?
Thank you so much for your help.
Kind regards. Phil

Injectors can fail for a number of reasons.
My Disco was running OK, just the odd puff of black smoke when accelerating hard, it had recently just passed the MOT, flew through on emissions, but as we're going to France at the end of the month green laning (Mudplug tours. - been with them before) with over 2k miles to do, I decided that after 140k under it's bonnet, a check of them might be in order.
There's 3 or 4 very small holes in the tips, where the fuel fires out of the injector, these can block, or wear in time, also the injector is set to "fire" at a certain pressure, this can alter, and the injector might not atomise when it "fires" but squirt instead, they can also "weep"
I believe that my injectors where either blocked or just worn out, but the difference is noticeable.
New injectors are very expensive, you'd be better getting them checked and refurbed if required.
But do the simple things with the filter and sedimenter first

Thank you very much for all your help. I hope it works!! Enjoy your trip to France.
