Hi everyone
Had a problem with my auto box. Purchased the car from 200miles away. While driving home, noticed car wouldn't go into overdive. It was slowly getting worse and worse. Was forced to drive car to work that night. Got in disco in the morning and no forward drive but had reverse. I put 4L of oil into gearbox, still no drive. Got car recovered home and tried to put more oil in. ( I done correct procedure for filling) but i had oil flowing out then. Oil was black and smelled burnt. A guess would be the clutch A has burnt out?? Anyway-i have purchased a second hand box and wanted to know what gaskets and seals i should replace. I know of the oil cooler O RINGS,rear crank seal, but what else? Im dropping transfer box down aswell. I want it leak free when i replace. Any info on the fault or seals and gaskets would be great.
Thank you

From your description of the state of the fluid I'd say the 'box is goosed, did you not check the colour/level before purchase?
If your purchase was from a dealer (I suspect not as you've already obtained a used 'box) you will have a claim against them, but a private sale leaves you pretty much on your own unless the seller stated categorically that the car was in good order & you've a witness to that fact. What's the recorded mileage & did the car seem ok on the test drive?

Hi Norseman. It was a private sale. I purchased knowing it had a gearbox fault (purchased very cheap) I stopped in the services to put oil in the box as i suspected it was low on oil but the fill plug was solid, and started to round-also ****ing down with rain. I have picked up a cheap box with XY switch on it aswell. It would be nice to know what seals and gaskets people would change at this point? Vehicle only had 100k on the clocks and full service history

I apologise for the wording of my post, you were obviously on the ball with the deal. I can't help with your question, but hope you're able to bring the car back to life & enjoy your ownership.
