IMG_1325.JPG IMG_1326.JPG IMG_1413.JPG In the following few months I am building a camel trophy replica discovery on a low budget it will them be driven over 22000 miles to Malaysia from Scotland as I have just left school 3 friends and I shall be doing this for our gap year. We shall be Starting in January. I have just bought the car for £650 it needs new sills and paninger and drivers foot wells. It's only done 92000 miles and is in really good mechanical condition. I shall use this thread to show how I am getting along with the build.

Sounds like fun, I bet it is going to be fun getting all the Visa's etc arranged.

what engine?
Check the boot / rear wheel arch and bottom of "b" pillar as well for the rot.

One tip: If you are driving through a country where the authorities like some extra pocket money for "helping " you ,or for real or imagined driving mistakes. Do not keep a lot of money in your wallet, then when you open it to pay the "fine" , you can show them you are running low on funds. They generally accept the money left in your wallet rather than the wedge you have stashed somewhere else.

Cheers

Today I have done quite abit of finishing what the last owner started, they have done most of the cutting. I just need to tidy it up and fabricate some new panels.
As you can see by the photos it needs new sills and floor panels. I might use 100 x 60 x 3 mm box section for the sills and 2mm sheet for the floor

This discovery won't be going to Maylasia! In fact it's going the other way as it's about to be loaded onto a ship at Royal Portbury dock bound for New York!
I've taken a photo and you've made a good job of the disco, think it's being loaded in the next 24hrs and will be put on the car carrier Procyon Leader.

We ended up shipping it to New York we have so far driven it all the way down to the bottom of Argentina we are then on our way to Uruguay to ship the car back to the uk the only fault so far after 18000 miles of driving and 3000 miles off road was a universal joint needing replacing
