I would much appreciate some advice having recently purchased a Disco1 3.5 on carburetors. Firstly, the fuel pump appears to run continuously when the ignition is on and doesn't shut off and some pumps do when pressure is reached. Is this normal? I seem to recall that it might be but some confirmation would be welcome.

It's quite tricky to start, I accept it might need a tune but at the moment the choke needs to be pulled out to its full extent at a minimum. I have heard that one or more pumps on the accelerator pedal can help before turning the key but I don't know if this is good advice?

Look forward when you respond this and thanks in advance

If its unknown (as it is ) to you and difficult to start.
Plugs, leads, points and a carb rebuild would probably help.
As far as I am aware the pump would run all the time as there is a return line so as not to over pressure the carbs and push fuel out the overflow.
There have been a few threads on this so have a dig around.

Pics of you setup and pump details?

Thanks for that, you have confirm my thinking that the pump does run all the time – had a Morgan with same engine and the pump that used to run continuously. I have a feeling the choke cable is not correctly adjusted so expect is an issue going through all of the points you suggest plus the carbs
